It's That Time Again
It's time once again for the annual Missouri Evans Scholars Alumni
Newsletter. We send this newsletter out to our alumni each year because we at the Evans Scholars house realize the importance that our alumni play in the continuing success of the
Evans Scholar program, not just at Missouri, but throughout the country. An important part of that relationship is keeping our alumni abreast of new developments in the house.
So each year we send out the newsletter to let you know what is happening at the house you spent four years of your life in. We'll introduce you to new faces around the house
and say goodbye to some familiar ones.
New Scholar News
This year, the New Scholar's GPA was above the 3.0 mark yet again. New
Scholars studied three hours every week night, with the exception of special occasions, such as Cardinals playoff games!
Former New Scholar Educator, Patrick Leinauer,
worked consistently with the New Scholars to churn out these results. The Evan's House New Scholars were in the top five of New Pledge groups among fraternities across
campus.
This forthcoming school year, we look forward to welcoming New Scholars:
Sean Cody Courtney Poskin Noah Gray Jesse
Snow Tom Perrot Dominic Trupiano

Best of luck to all of our graduates as they move onto the next stage in their lives!
Kerlick Classic
On Saturday April 16, the Missouri Evans Scholars will be proudly hosting the Kerlick Classic at Lake of the Woods Golf Course. The golf tournament proceeds will go to the
Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Missouri, a temporary residence for families of children receiving medical care at Columbia area hospitals. Since its opening in June 1983, this
house has been a home away from home for thousands of families, providing inexpensive lodging in a warm and supportive atmosphere where families may privately share their concerns, fears, and questions. This tournament is dedicated to Mark Kerlick, a 1979 Missouri Evans Scholar who passed away in December 1991 with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Last year, the Missouri Evans Scholars raised a total of 1700 dollars for the Ronald McDonald House, and we hope that this year, with the Alumni's support, that we can raise much more. If you have any other questions on how you can support it, please contact Sean Howard at (572)-442-8819
E.S. Girls
In addition to current scholars, Ashley Frost and Lauren Oney, four new girls became Evans Scholars this year, adding a little more feminism to the mix. They are Liz Krahl,Katie Wilke, Katie Klaas, and Laura Ortinau.
"I am really glad the new girls have become a part of the house. We have really bonded and had a lot of fun this semester," Ashley Frost said.
Lauren Oney was chosen for an internship at Disney World in Orlando, Fl. this semester and will be returning to the house this fall.
Things will be a little different this upcoming fall semester with six girls living in the house. This will be the greatest number of girls to have lived in the house at one time. "I am excited about living in the house and becoming closer with everyone. It will be a fun experience," Liz Krahl said.
Evans Scholar Intramural
Season
This year's intramural season got off to a good start as the Evans Scholars men reached the flag football and softball playoffs.
The football team finished the season with a 2 and 2 record. This was a slight drop off from a 4 and 0 regular season record last year. The team entered the playoffs as the 8 seed
and carried away an impressive first round win. However the following week the football season came to an end with a second round loss.
The Softball team entered
the playoffs as the 3 seed after a 3 and 1 regular season record. Led by a group of seniors the softball team was expecting a successful run through the playoffs, but these
hopes were shattered when the team suffered a disappointing loss in the first round.
Next on the intramural list was volleyball. The team rolled through the
regular season with a perfect 4 and 0 record. The competition could not match the power and skill of the Evans Scholar men. However the team finally met their match in the
playoffs and a promising season came to an end.
Fairly new to the intramural season was bowling. The Evans Scholars team of four ended their four week schedule with an
impressive 135 average, being good enough for third place in Men's Greek Division Two.
Basketball kicked off second semester. The team ran into some stiff competition early, and they dropped their first two games. Led by seniors Chris Poskin and Larry
Grom, the team bounced back to win their final two games which put them in the play-offs. In a blowout victory the team won their first game with ease. In round two the team
battled hard, but could not manage to knock-off the number one seed.
The soccer team begins play in April and they will be looking to avenge last year's overtime loss
in their semi-final match. The house is proud to say they have reached the play-offs in every sport this year, and we expect nothing less from the soccer team.
House Social Events
The house has been very busy this year with many social events. We were proud to have the WGA directors join us for dinner.
It is always a wonderful chance for us to show our appreciation to them for all their hard work and dedication to the Evans' Foundation.
The house had a great time on
our annual trip to Chicago for Golf Ball. No Golf Ball would be complete with out the Evans Scholar basketball tournament. This years Missouri squad faced off against the Miami
of Ohio team. Both teams fought hard the entire game and its conclusion came down to one shot. With two seconds left in regulation Miami of Ohio took a two point lead. Missouri's
Sean Howard threw a full court pass to senior Chris Poskin who put up a shot
from the corner as time expired. The shot hit nothing but the bottom of the net to tie the game. Missouri went on to win in Overtime. In the second round they were not so lucky and they lost to Northern Illinois.
We are looking forward to the meeting all the incoming scholars during this year's New Scholar weekend.
So Far Away...
Studying outside of the Missouri chapter Evans house this year are Phuoc Nguyen (senior) and Lauren Oney (sophomore). Phuoc is currently studying in Sydney, Australia, and
will continue to do so for the remainder of the semester. Lauren is currently interning at Disney with an emphasis in Parade Audience Control which focuses on working with
children. She is also a volunteer through Give Kids the world. She is still keeping up with her studies taking several online courses through Florissant Valley College, and courses through Disney's program.
We're looking forward to having Lauren back next semester, and we are wishing the best for Phuoc as he prepares to graduate.
