Scholars Work Hard for a 3.17 G.P.A

This past semester the Missouri Evans Scholars once again proved their scholastic abilities. For the past 10 semesters, the Lamda chapter has received the National Committee Chapter Academic Achievement Award for achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. With a GPA of 3.17, our house was ranked the top fraternity at the University of Missouri-Columbia. We are proud of this accomplishment and plan to achieve an even higher GPA next semester.

Kerlick Classic

On Saturday April 26, the Missouri Evans Scholars will be proudly hosting the Kerlick Classic at Lake of the Woods Golf Course. The golf tournament proceeds will go to the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Missouri, a temporary residence for families of children receiving medical care at Columbia area hospitals. Since its opening in June 1983, this house has been a home away from home for thousands of families, providing inexpensive lodging in a warm and supportive atmosphere where families may privately share their concerns, fears, and questions. This tournament is dedicated to Mark Kerlick, a 1979 Missouri Evans Scholar who passed away in December 1991 with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Last year, the Missouri Evan Scholars raised a total of $3,000 for the Ronald McDonald House, and we hope that this year, with the Alumni's support, that we can raise much more. If you wish to participate in the tournament, or you have any other questions on how you can support it, please contact Josh Mottert at (573) 442-8819 or email him at jmm2b7@mizzzou.edu. You may also register online at http://www.students.missouri.edu/~mues/.

The Parting of a Mentor

Last month, the Missouri's Evans Scholars received painful news. It seems that the spring semester of '03 will be the last that our faculty advisor Joe Camille will be with us. Joe Camille has been a strong pillar of support for the Missouri chapter since 1988, and has helped guide the Missouri scholars for some 15 odd years. He will be retiring from his position with the Evans Scholars next year, but will not be leaving the University. As a chapter we want to say how sad we are to see him leave. Mr. Camille, we wish you a happy future... you will be missed.

A Couple Quotes from the Scholars
Patrick Cody: "Mr. Camille was always available when you needed something. We are all sorry to see him go."
Sarah Farmer: "I was shocked when he told us he was leaving. Mr. Camille has been a great help to me and it just will not be the same without him."
Brian Meyer: "I really learned alot of important things from him. He will be missed."
